I used Duplicate finder to clean up a lot of junk in the PC it found 1684 duplicate files too many to check individually so i set it to keep the original files and delete the copies every thing is working perfectly but i have now got a white bar at the bottom of the page when i am on the internet but not on my desktop and no matter how i try i can not get rid of it any help will be gratefully received thanks

Not sure what to make of that. Did you try rebooting? It might just be a residual effect of your cleansing that might go away with a restart. Checking to see if I can find anything about it elsewhere.

Exactly the same happened to me in Firefox on our desktop last week Bill.

Go to the Add-on manage and choose to update every add-on you have. Then close FF...possibly even reboot - I don't recall if I had to, but it should fix the problem.

If you have the Google Photos screenaver add-on installed, remove it.

Disable all your add-ons and introduced them back one by one until you figure out which one is screwing up your window and producing the gray bar. Tab mix plus is a good one to start with if you have it installed, as it can often be a problem.

no success it's still there but it is definitely a Firefox problem as IE7 works OK

    maybe reloading FF will work???

Did you restart FF after disabling all the add-ons?

    New stuff to try:

If you have these files, remove them:
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\chrome\m3ffxtbr.manifest)
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\chrome\a2ffxtbr.manifest)
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\chrome\s4ffxtbr.manifest
    • Then Restart FF.
If you have Google Web Accelerator installed, disable it. Restart FF.

Reinstalliing FF does nothing - I tried that too ;)

Read my Post #7 again...I added more suggestions

Do you have any themes installed? If so, go back to the default theme. Then restart FF.

i don't have Google ACC or any of the files you suggest also i cant count how many times i have restarted FF after every new try

When you are restarting Firefox (which you must do after each and veery one of these suggestions) make sure you are closing ALL instances and windows of FF and related dependent software apps such as Chatzilla. Open Task Manager and make sure firefox.exe is not still running in your process list, just to be sure. It is crucial that FF is closed down entirely for changes to take effect.

If you're not sure this has been the case, run my suggestions again.

If it still doesn't remove the gray bar, run some spyware apps to see if you have Mywebsearch toolbar installed or Ask.com toolbar installed. If so, remove them as they can cause this (and other) issues. (a-Squared would be a good app for this, downloadable from MGs).

Last resort, you can uninstall, run CCleaner for cleaning both files and then the registry, then reinstall. This would work if somehow your FF files had got corrupted. In the gray bar do you have any red text or symbols? If so what is it, as this would help locate the problem.

Okay...so that tells us it is a menu item within FF that is causing this issue. Do you have like a short cut on there to something...maybe Ebay, Thunderbird email....anything like that? If so...remove/uninstall/disable that if it is not standard FF stuff.

the only shortcut i have is Speed dial and i have disabled that

..and I guess a restart of FF made no difference?

Does it work in safe mode? By this I mean Firefox Safe Mode, not Windows.

in safe mode the bar is gone but can not give screen shot at all tool bars are disabled

OK...safe mode basically disabled extensions, puts FF in to default theme mode and default toolbar settings and controls. So it is something related to one of those.

You could try creating a new profile in FF. Add the add-ons one by one and any extensions and themes you want. Here's how to do that:

I did some googling on this and found a few different pages that were pointing to the culprit being Java.

A few answers here and here
