    Hello everyone:

I am running Win ME, 256 MB, 600 MHZ, 12GB HD and want to know the best way to annually clean your computer. Once a week, I do the following:

    1. Scan Disk, Disk Clean up
    2. Defrag once a month or every two depending on what programs I add or uninstall
    3. Update my AdAware and SpyGuard, SpyWare Blaster
    4. Run my CrapCleaner software
    5. Update my NAV daily.

    Backup once a month.

Is there anything I can do? e.g. Reformatting the computer, clean uninstall, removing my documents and placing on CD??

Any other ideas? My goal is to keep my system running at its most optimum.

    Thanks..enjoy summer.

You can use one of those free registry cleaner utilities but you have to be careful when utilizing them. The one I use and love is called RegSeeker. Another good one includes RegScrubXP. They clean unused registry values and such that uninstallations and other processes have left behind. I notice a huge improvement once I delete them (I do it about once every couple of months). Go onto the Registry section of this website, it has good utilities.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into Regseeker. As for NAV, I have NIS and it is a hogger, and gives me problems. Right now, I have to manually update my NAV section because it will not update the CC files. And I have already reinstalled it once (2 hour job) with Symantec's wonderful directions and lack of telling me about the registry keys that you also have to delete.

When my NIS runs out, I am considering other options.

I would get rid of NIS and use AVG or Avast! as D3m3nt3d suggested. And you could use Zone Alarm Free or Sygate Free as a firewall which work great with those two av's. But remember to only install and run one av and one firewall.

The system requirements do not support WIN ME. Thanks anyway.
