Clear Harddrive

I have windows 98 and I have the startup disk and cd, my specs are 37.2 GB harddrive, 256 MB RAM and all that stuff, but I want to totally clear my harddrive and start it over. I try my windows 98 cd and disk, but it doesn't let me, so is their any other way I can totally clear my harddrive and reinstall windows 98 from stratch.

 

restart windows in dos and type format C:\ thin hit Y thin enter when its done restart with the windows boot disk in the drive select start windows with cd-rom support and when its done put the windows cd in the cd-rom and type D:\ or what ever your cd-rom letter is and hit enter and thin type setup and hit enter and just follow the setup menu tell your done


P.S. formating will wipe your hard drive there will be nothing left on the hard drive you will have to install the os

 

I see you have a Win98 startup disk. You could wipe your hard drive the way Airwolf suggests, but I get nervous about wiping out an operating system that's actually in use when you're doing the wipe.

Better to start from the Win98 startup disk. It has FORMAT.COM on it. At the A:> prompt, just type "FORMAT C:" (without the quotes) and confirm as needed to start the format. Once that's done, you could run SETUP.EXE from the Windows CD-ROM without restarting if you enabled CD-ROM support when you started from the floppy.

Before you reformat your hard drive, you might to make sure that you can boot from your Windows CD-ROM, or at least that your Win98 startup disk really does provide CD-ROM support.

Test both before you wipe your hard drive. If you can't access your CD-ROM drive after you've wiped your hard drive, you're going to have some serious trouble re-installing your OS from the CD-ROM disk.
