My teenager went to this website today, using our desktop PC. He said he learned about this website from a message board that he's on. We are using Firefox 3.0.10 and we have the WOT (Web of Trust) add-on. My son said WOT rated the site as safe. He says it's an AI that you can interact with. I googled it, looks like just a fun thing. I just wondered, though, if anyone here knew anything more about it. I'm not going there with the laptop until I learn more about it.

    Any feedback appreciated, thanks!

    Hi

Seems harmless enough, played with it for 10mins and didnt flag any alarm bells up for me, but would be a tad weary of what could be typed into the past AI chats, some folk on the net have weird thoughts!

Site advisor while nto perfect does list this as ok http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/cleverbot.com

Thanks for checking that, Halo. I told my son to be careful what he types in there. He's careful, knows enough not to give out anything personal on the net. :)

Sounds pretty savvy for a teen these days.
    (Must be the upbringing)

Well, he's old enough to know by now, and I've talked to him a lot over the years about cyber safety. He's not allowed to download anything without my checking it first, and if I hear of any security hazards I tell him about it. We've had a couple of scares here last fall with rogue antivirus software trying to get in when he clicked on what looked like innocent links (before we had WOT installed), but he called me right away and we were fortunate, nothing got in.

He's also watched me scan both our computers extensively and study HJT logs if I wanted to check something.

It won't be long and he'll be on his own, so he needs to know how to look after his own computer when the time comes. I've told him about this site, I think this forum is tremendous resource.:)

In the meantime...my computer, my rules, and I'm sure he doesn't want to deal with 'the wrath of Mom' if he gets some malware installed on this computer.:-D

I'd still have to say that you're doing a pretty good job.

    Hi Amethyst

I agree with hrlow2 and seems as if you are teaching him well on how to be safe not only in the physical PC, but in surfing too, so great job and I have no doubt he has a great grounding to be a good tech in years to come.

If he or you wish him to become a member here he will be very welcome and as we have some rules on behaviour of members its a pretty well moderated site so any ills of the net should not befall him, as the admin team will keep an eye out for our younger members (so long as we know who they are that is).

    Halo and hrlow2,

I told my son about this forum, so I'm sure when he ends up with his own computer, he'll join up. :) Or maybe sooner, I see there's a forum for games as well, and he's got an Xbox 360.
