When I click on a link in one of the MG replies, it starts to work but doesn't progress, apart from changing to another screen. The cursor and arrow glass appear, but that's it. If I cut and paste the URL, it works. Any solutions? Bazza

Thanks, Big "A" to the rescue again. It reports back as succeeded. Will check it out soon. Thanks again. Bazza

Unfortunately, symptoms are still the same. Cut and paste is the only way I can connect to a URL in a thread. Bazza

It's weird. The only way I can get it to work is:-

    (1) Click on a link in an MG thread. I'm not blaming MG, just using it as an example.
    (2) The link appears as a URL
    (3) The screen changes, as if it is making contact with the URL. The hourglass cursor appears but no further progress.
    (4) I copy (Ctrl-C) the URL as it appears.
    (5) I delete the existing URL.
    (6) I paste (Ctrl-V) the exact same URL and it works

Bazza following on from Adryns post try registering all these...

    Start > Run > regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
    Start > Run > regsvr32 Msjava.dll
    Start > Run > regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
    Start > Run > regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
    Start > Run > regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
    Start > Run > regsvr32 Browseui.dll
    Start > Run > regsvr32 Shell32.dll

Just noticed one of these is Msjava.dll. I've read some bad things about MS Java. My laptop has SunJava on it, I think. Should I still run Msjava.dll.

A second thought, should I run these in the sequence you have listed and check them out one at a time, or just run the lot in one hit? Bazza

Out of curiosity, what browser are you using? Does the same thing happen with an alternative browser?

I'm using IE6, never ever bothered using anything else, as IE has always sufficed. Version 6.0.2900.2180, as pre-installed. I notice a duplicate copy of iexplore.exe on my PC. Might copy it across later. I know that I will get lots of advice to use FF, Opera and the like, but have never seen the need to. Bazza.

One at a time Bazza and I dont think the order matters, that was the way I typed them into a Doc a while back.

as for MSjava.dll then you either have it still on your PC or maybe not, do a quick search for that DLL, if you have it, register it but if not dont bother, you may well be wise to go through the removal procedure for MSjava ( http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44525 Setion #8 )

Thanks, Halo. A search using *java.dll only finds Sun Java. I think that comes standard with XP SP2 on my laptop. Will run those listed, one-at-a-time and see what happens.

Thanks again. It is a PITA as it is, but manageable for the moment. Bazza

Thanks, Halo. Damn, ran them all, one-at-a-time, none of them made any difference.

All "succeeded", except msjava.dll (as it is not on my machine), so that failed, of course.

I used http://www.mosnews.com/news/2006/03/23/beatpirate.shtml as a trial link, after each load. Still nothing.

Cut and pasting, as described earlier in this thread, worked immediately. Any more ideas, anyone? Bazza

Then in Internet Explorer go to: Tools > Internet Options > Programs, > Reset
    Web Settings,

    plus check the below...

In Windows Explorer go to: Tools > Folder Options, > File Types..... Scroll down to URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol > click Advanced > Edit >
Under "Application used to perform action" it should read:

    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

    Hey Bazza,

I just scanned it before you get off. Is this on your XP or 98SE machine?

Thanks Halo, resetting IE to original settings worked. :D :) Windows Explorer was already set as you suggested. Don't know what changed the settings. I certainly didn't do it intentionally. Bazza

One other thing you can check, Tools > Internet Options > Programs
make sure there is a check in: "IE should check if it is the default browser".

Halo. Damn, It worked once, on the link in this thread. Thought I had overcome the problem. When I tried it on other threads and links, it no longer worked.:p

Steve, thanks, box is already checked as you suggested.:) Bazza

Gonna check if something has altered it back again. Baz

Maybe it all needs a reboot, after the changes. Will check again when I log on tomorrow. Bye for now. Bazza

Bazza, make sure you only have 1 IE window open when resetting the default, as if more than 1 open IE tends to not remember the setting.

I never actually use IE. My ISP is AOL.com (UK) :p and it sits over IE. I have to deliberately start up IE if I want it, which I rarely, if ever, do. Bazza

I'd still try the reset in IE as you say AOL overlays it so still may use certain setings.... I'll admit I know bugger all about AOL :) but do have friends that use it that may have come across this.... which version AOL you using Bazza?

Halo, just spent nearly 2 days going back to original restore point, adding new programs, trying to customise XP SP2, getting rid of the semi installed NAV, uninstall Avast, Install Norton SystemWorks premier 2006, without NAV, reinstall Avast, etc.

Gone through yours and Steves suggestions again, just now, and still have the same problem with clicking on a site link.

I am using AOL v7.0 (UK version) revision 4144.10501 (32 bit). Gotta get broadband. Bazza
