Cloning: Two onto One

    A simple question about cloning:

Is it possible to clone two hard disks onto two partitions each the same size as or larger than the source disks, so I can fit copies of two disks onto one ? (I vaguely remember there being unique about sector 0 on a disk, and obviously the target disk has only one physical sector) ?

Could I then clone either of the two partitions back on to onto single disks if need be, in the future?

It's straightforward as long as you have an intermediate drive available - a plugin drive is fine. Use an imaging program, something like Macrium Reflect, to image each of the two disks, storing the image files on the intermediate drive. Then use Macrium to restore the images to the two partitions on the larger drive. That's it, but if either of these drives contains an operating system it won't boot until the drive's boot configuration is sorted out. Not quite so straightforward!

I would advise doing this with the Macrium boot disk rather than the installed version.
