WinME: Would the knowledgeable ones recommend closing IE while surfing on Firefox?
If so, many links don't work, showing "Can't be found."
A recommended fix would be greatly appreciated. :)

Interesting. Do you have any firewalls installed that would be blocking Firefox?

I use sygate as well. Has it ever prompted you to allow/block firefox?

When Firefox is running, double-click on the sygate icon on the bottom of the taskbar (it's one with two arrows pointing in opposite directions), and see if it's allowing Firefox in the frame at the bottom of the window (if there's a ? on firefox.exe, right click on it and allow it. Same thing if there is a red circle on it).

Yes, Firefox is there, w/o any question marks.

    Sorry for the delay.

What is your ISP? Does it require IE to open in order to connect? Try going to tools->Options->Connection Settings->Auto detect proxy settings, and see if that'll work.

Sounds to me like you got an ISP that is dependent on IE, very poor if you ask me.

Hmm, I don't know... I don't think its proxy settings thats doing it.

So if you leave IE open while you use firefox, it works fine? It is just IE, right, not AOL or somthing?

Somthing is leading my to think a BHO (browser helper object) is setting some connection settings while IE is running, and then un-setting them when IE is closed... thus breaking your connection unless the software is running.

You done a check for spyware?
