Quite easy to close all ports... unplug your computer ;)

    Perhaps you need a firewall?

Well, back in the 60's they closed the Cuban ports with a naval blockade.

But if you want to control what ports are open on your machine (since Windows defaults to having a bnch of open ports) your best bet is to use a firewall of some kind. Try ZoneAlarm.

Hi , Definitely not yet Geek Class either, but how about "Unplug and Play" at the Gibson Research site. I'm not linking it because I could be wrong, but doesn't this application stealth your ports?

hiya dell :) DO NOT count on uinplug'nplay to do the job of a decent firewall. The application that Halo suggested on the other hand does a fine job of letting you choose which ports you want blocked.

Thanks BillH. Oh yeah,I definitely have my firewalls up. Sometimes I'm afraid I have so much protection in place that I'm certainly slowing down my puter, but until I know more...better slow than sorry. One battle with Blaster and a slew of hijackers,as well as dealing with DellIndia, was enough for me for awhile!

I know Dell :) Sometimes I thihk if spyware protectors and hijack blasters and antivirus applications were lifejackets if I ever do hit the water I'll BOUNCE ;) But, like you, I also feel that there ain't no such thing as too much protection.
