cmi audio/control panel

hi all,

i have just installed a new audio card, this is a pci one which came with drivers, my sound is working ok, i have the card connected to an amp/speakers,
the problem is the cmi audio configuration icon in my control panel refuses to open,
on boot up i get the message 'failed to find cmicnfg3.cpl' (something like that),
i have checked my winnt/system and the .cpl is there
i have also checked my registry HKey local.......control panel/cpls and the right path is there,
i have uninstalled, reinstalled, messed and checked all over my pc but i still can't get the control panel icon working

any ideas

terratec aureon 5.1 pci audio card (a search on my pc suggests this is cmi compatable)

on-board sound dissabled (cmi audio config was ok with this)
