How old is the PC, i ask this as it may be the little battery on the mobo, sometimes you can take it out and reseat it and it will do the job, if not just go and buy another and replace it, there is another option aswell, but that depends on whether the PC has been infected with a virus, trojan, or malware, and that would be to click on this link http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=208809 and follow all the instructions and post back intro the malware forum, after doing so you must be patient and wait until the malware fighters get round to sorting you out !

Thanks for your help Rustyjack, she is quite old as far as PCs go 5 years or so i think, ill try the battery Ive got a spare (same!)and a fresh install whips anything virus associated off i think? I'm now running Pander cloud AV herd of it?so i think I'm fine on that score, What is CMOS can you briefly explain?

CMOS holds the basic instructions the computer needs to initialize its hardware components and boot up. These settings are known as the basic input output settings or BIOS, also referred to as CMOS settings.
CMOS controls a variety of functions, including the Power On Self Test (POST). When the computers power supply switches on , CMOS runs a series of checks to make sure the system is functioning properly, and the computers operating system is fully functional before booting. If not then you will recieve checksum errors, like you did.
Basically its like a warning system, or alarm on a house, if something is wrong it gives you a warning, rings a bell ( as it where ) !

P.S Google is your friend, just type in " What is CMOS " and you'll get tons of information on it !
