Co-worker Is Monitoring My Computer

Is there a way (preferably free) to quickly tell whether someone is monitoring your computer usage? Is there an anti-spy program with a system shield so I won't have to worry about future security issues? Thanks for your help!

 

Install a firewall.

Why do you want him/her/it to stop spying on you. Do you have anything to hide?

 

Hahaha. Yeah, I don't want the U.S. Fed to discover my drug connections and my underground underage prostitute ring I'm peddling out of my basement. But seriously, does anyone know how to detect spy software that has been installed on a computer which enables someone to remotely view and gain access to a system. Is there some kind of shield I can install which will stop problems in the future. I have a firewall which came with XP Pro. Thanks for your help!

 

You should probably have posted this question in the spyware specific section, really.

Anyway, the major programs such as Ad-AwareSE or Spybot should be able to find any third-party backdoors or trojans one would use to spy on you. As well, checking out the start-up programs & processes with msconfig would show you if there's something running that shouldn't be.

 

Not to mention that there are a number of corporate security programs that allow remote screenshots and whatnot on any computer owned or operated by that company. It is unlikely on a work computer that was equiped with that kind of software that you would have the privilages to remove or disable it. If you did, it would likely result in termination anyway.

 

Install a real firewall, not XPs...
