CoD4 Lag [Maybe?] Issues

Hello, let me begin by thanking anyone who takes the time to help me.

My problem, I believe is related to my wireless network. Roadrunner cable streamed wirelessly through a Netgear router. Although, this may be my problem, I think I should say that the exact same hardware worked fine on my previous computer. When I reach the server page, sometimes I get ping listings of 40-200 and the occasional one in the thousands but most of the time, I get in the mid hundreds to the thousands... When I join the server however (if it doesn't "High-Ping-Block" me) the ping's actually at a normal rate.

Randomly through my play I will have what I can only call lag spikes; I'll keep moving but my computer will stop showing it. Suddenly I'll be... well, dead. About half the time the "Connection Interrupted" message will appear. My taskbar icon for my wireless card is showing 5/5 bars and browsing the net works fine. When I first bought this new computer, this did not happen and began without me having patched anything. I HAVE since patched both Punkbuster AND COD4. Currently running whatever the newest PB is and version 1.6 of COD4.

One last thing in the mountain of text: I have tried changing the settings on the game's graphics, there was no effect. I have the same occurrence whether I'm running 800x600 on the lowest settings or 1280x1024 with the graphics jacked.

Wireless connections are just plain horrible for gaming. Everything from cellphone towers to your neighbor's $29.95 dvd player can trip up your connections and cause lag spikes.

Try it with a wire and you'll drop at least 20ms off your ping, and probably kill most of the lag spikes.
