CoD4 Lag [Maybe?] Issues

I am having the exact same issues as the original poster. I have a VERY good understanding of the dynamics of computer components, connection rate, etc.. here is a baseline of my setup / hardware:

    Q6600 quadcore (overclocked to 3.2ghz)
    (4) gigs of Corsair Dominator 1066mhz ram
    Asus P5E-VM HDMI motherboard
PC Power & Cooling 750w Power Supply
    WD 640gb Sata hard drive
    EVGA 8800GTS Video Card
    Windows Vista Ultimate x64
    Charter Cable 10mb internet connection

When I play any of my "other games" online, (FEAR, Guild Wars, Crysis), they work fine (I do understand that Crysis is a GPU hog). However, when I play COD4, I experience the same type of "lag" that was previously mentioned. The game will run fine for about 30 seconds or so, then I get what I can only describe as a HUGE lag spike for about 2-3 seconds. When COD4 shows the "playback" of me being killed, it shows my opponent running around normally and me being "FROZEN" and not moving at all.

I am on a wireless setup with a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and a ZONET ZEW2500P wireless device, hooked up to my computer. My Linksys router is about 45 feet from my computer, in a different room. I have an excellent wireless connection (usually between 92% - 96%). When I check my ping in COD4, I am usually the LOWEST ping in the room (around 20). So, I know my SIGNAL is really good. I even went as far as to leave my wireless internet connection unsecure (no encryption - WEP, WPA). I forwarded my ports, etc.

I have done all of the COD4 tricks such as heavily overclock my graphics card, use the developer tool / commands by pressing the ~ key: cl_connectattempts 30 (or 60), cl_connectiontimeout 500, updated to the latest Punkbuster, cl_maxpackets 100, cl_packetdup 0 or 1, etc.. I have even enabled the cg_drawFPS 1 and cg_drawlagometer 1. When I "LAG SPIKE" every 30 seconds or so, it shows on the lagometer graph as a large yellow graph/spike, as soon as the "spike" is over, it returns to a thin blue line. That obviously tells me, there is a problem with the wireless connection pertaining to the game. Like I said, I have NO problems with any of my other online games on my computer. Just COD4. Often, I will incur an error message saying, "CONNECTION INTERRUPTED".

To isolate my issue, I ran a long 50 ft ethernet cable (CAT5) from my router, directly into my onboard LAN connection. Viola, NO MORE ISSUES. So, I KNOW its my wireless settings and I suspect the culprit is Windows Vista (specifically how Windows Vista manages its' wireless settings). Why does COD4 seem to be the ONLY game that I have, to be affected by this problem?

Any suggestions? Anyone resolve this issue or find its cause? I know I am not the only one suffering from this problem. It seems that I have been all over the internet, looking for a valid solution (other than someone saying, wireless sux for gaming). My other games are perfectly fine over wireless. There is probably a "tweak" within Vista that will solve this issue. I am usually a person that helps answer tech questions on other websites such as Vapochill Forum, HardForum, etc.. but this one has me stumped!

    Hi

Moved your thread to its own thread as the level of detail you have given into your issue deserves some attention and sadly tagging onto older threads can get your question looked over.

So original thread here for those wishing to review.

Ive been researching this problem for a while since I keep getting the same thing on my new labtop(runs vista) it seems to be a problem with vista searching for a new network every 60 seconds or so, apparently its a known issue with no fix, I did read about some kind of adapter you can buy that fools vista into thinking its wired, thus solving the problem.
