I get a code 2 error message in Windows ME when I tried to use my digital camera in a USB port--NTKERN.VXD unable to load the driver, Code 2. Can anybody help me figure out how to extract the correct drivers? Thanks

Are you fully upto date with Windows ME updates?

If you had a Driver CD that came with the Camera did you install the drivers supplied?

If you goto Device Manager ( located in Control Panel > System ) are their any yellow ! marks by anything?

If you built the PC yourself do you know if the Chipset/Motherboard drivers have been installed? This is where some system specs will come in handy if you can post them, CPU, Motherboard name and version, if its a per-build eg DELL, HP etc then what model and version is it?

    What Camera do you have?

Hi & thanks for the reply. I am current with Windows ME updates. The camera is a DXG-308 & the camera driver has been installed. In device manager, there is a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark next to the camera. When I try to update the driver, it tells me the best driver is already installed. When I check "Imaging devices", only the LPT & COM1 ports show up, no USB port. Microsoft help tells me I have to find the folder in which Windows ME is installed on the computer, but I don't know how to find the name of that folder. If I could find it, then I can extract the correct usb drivers from the ME startup disk, under usbhub.sys, usbd.sys, & uhcd.sys.
How do I locate the name of the folder in which Windows ME is installed? Doing a "Search" didn't help. Is there a standard name for this folder? THANKS!
PS I am running a Pentium 4, 2.4 gig, 512MB memory, factory built. The problem is defiinitely with Windows ME.

Do you have any other USB hardware plugged in? if not then you may need to enter the Bios and check to see if USB has been enabled.

The location of the install files could be C:\Windows\Options\Cabs or C:\Windows\Options\Install.

but I suprisingly have a copy of the USB drivers for ME.. see attached zip file below, I hope you kept a link to how to install the drivers as its a long time since I installed USB on WinME.

The problem is more with how technology has progressed since the likes of Win98/ME first came out, you would have no major problems if you were using XP as natively it has USB compatibility built in.. but thats a side issue :)

Thank you so much for the zip files! I unzipped them, but now how do I get them to work? There are 17 different USB folders, but I don't know how to install them. Can you help?

In Device manager do you have any reference to USB and USB Hubs/Controllers?

If not you will need to enable USB in your Bios.

I will try and re-read on how to install USB on ME again, may take me a day or so.
