code 28 XP

    jarcher I can't handle a title

    My inlaws have no sound
    their driver/audio controller needs to be reinstalled
    there is no disk, and I cannot find anything in i386
    I get prompred to reinstall it and automati cannot find it, either
    is there a way to fix this without the disk?

    Well, hell. HP doesn't supply drivers for the sound on their site.

    Does it have the original OEM install of XP on it?

    that I cannot answer
    its a "hand me down" computer
    and a couple weeks ago the pc wouldnt boot
    a guy they know repaired that
    and now can access windows

    but I am thinking it is, probably
    I might have to do a complete recovery, but I believe that is what he did, in the first place
    I cannot find any audio drivers in the recovery console

    Are there any HP entries on start, all programs?

    I know HP puts in a driver reinsallaltion utility in there.

    but specificly what they are, I cannot remember

    ok,
    no there are not
    there used to be, before the reinstilation/recovery of XP
    I don't know what the guy did when he "fixed" it

    where would that shortcut in all programs lead me?
    windows cannot find it on its own
    is there an alternative audio driver i may install via the net?

    See if you can get more info about the audio device with Everest, from this site.
