codec???

I have just installed xp on my system and it won't play video clip.s, it tells me
The program you are trying to run requires a current Indeo codec.
To obtain a current driver that is compatible with this version of Windows, please contact the manufacturer at http://indeo.ligos.co
is there a free alternative? as they want $15 ,£150 for a os that won't play videos ???

 

did it say which codec version it needed? like indeo i263 or something like that?

This is all it keeps telling me, tried with, win med, winamp, real and ashampoo players, same message.

win xp pro, sp1 and all crit updates installed.

 

I use the demo at www.divx.com

 

DivX 5.0.2 , same message.

also - if you don't mind betas - the new media player is very good *shock*. no, it is... in fact - wmp9 has actually played some divx's that i haven't been able to play on my normal divx player. I normally don;t touch mp with a barge pole, but this one is worth trying.

note, however: the only way to uninstall is system restore. So, if you're like me and turn the bloody thing off, you won't be able to remove it. But i currently have no reason to.

The NIMO Codecs Pack solves 99,9% of all codec problems, so you might want to install that. It lets you choose what codecs to install, and has an uninstall implemented, so its quite handy.
Can't remember the url right now, but nimo's page is easily found @ google.
