codecs

been trying to play some video files and on some a message comes up about not having the right codecs , what are codecs and how do i get them , is it something i need to buy download or what? is there a better media player than the windows media player version 10 that i use now ? thanks for any help

those codecs should work ... i use winamp 5 w/ classic skins, i dont install the modern skins, i like it because it uses less resources than windows media player which i think is just bloated

 

thanks for the link got it downloaded one more question for anyone that might know, i had a video file that was a mpeg but wmp would not open it , message said format was not supported ,is there a way to fix that problem ?
