Collector's Corner continued

Today's item is Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie.

Published by Viking, it became a controversial book as Muslims found statements against their Prophet Muhammed in it.
They declared a Fatwa on the Author ( a licence to kill). This forced Rushdie into hiding for many years.

I purchased the book just after release to see what the fuss was about.
It is the worst book I have ever tried to read. I tried a few times, but it was too far out for me.

The book seller sold it to me in a brown paper bag to stop others seeing it. Bomb threats, way back then, were issued against anyone caught selling the book.

I still haven't read it. I joked that the Fatwa was declared to stop Rushdie from writing another book. He has published more books since then.

My Mom got a copy of that book in a box of books she bought at a yard sale a few years back, but it's in very poor shape. It's also missing the dust jacket.
