Color Quality Setting changes after booting

Help! Color Qualtiy Setting changes from 32 bit to 8 bit a few seconds after boot up. Had been having problems with a roaming mouse and high CPU usage while using the internet. Uninstalled Google Toolbar, Yahoo and Buffer Zone, which all seemed to effect it. Solved the problem! Previous though had downloaded firefox, which downloaded in Buffer Zone. Says in Firefox (Safe Mode).virtual. Could this be causing it to go back to the "Safe Mode-like" setting? Downloaded most current driver. No help. Boots in 32 bit changes to 8 bit, go into display settings reset to 32 and it stays till I reboot. Resolution, 1024X768, does not change. Should I reinstall Buffer Zone, uninstall firefox....really lost! Ran Norton Virus scan, spyware, malware...all says is fine. Says registry has no problems. Did some research and cannot find an answer! Running XP. NVIDIA GeForce2MX 100/200 Thank you so much for your help in advance.
