Colossal screw-up

Today I ran Baku on Windows 7. I am not familiar with its workings, I just seen that is says it cleans and optimizes the registry. So, being the ignorant newb, I ran the tools, removed what I thought were errors but in fact it removed a lot of essential windows items.

After completing, I couldnt open programs, I restated windows and now my windows password isnt even accepted. Is there a way to rectify this? I really need to get into my HD.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

You can try selecting the "Repair" option, should you see it. Repairing the Windows installation usually leaves the files system intact, while ushering in a fresh copy of Windows.

If all you see is to repair Startup, give it a shot.

For future reference, use Ccleaner. Many of us swear by it.

 

What is the suggested route,. enter safemode and select system restore or do the repair via the Win 7 disk?

I tried hitting f8 and delete during bootup, must be different in Win 7 though, neither of those worked, which key is it to get the prompt to start in safe mode? (If that is the better route)

 

I managed to go into safe mode, then control panel, then restored to earlier point. Thanks for prompt replies and advice, greatly appreciated, kudos fellas. :clap

 

I didn't suggest Safe Mode, because of your password issue.

Just for sanity's sake, how did you get into "Safe Mode"?
