I have a hp pavilion dv 2000 and I tried to upgrade from the current xp home os to xp pro by running a xp pro disk in the xp home os. The end result was the whole thing crashed. I can get through the setup to the point where the hdd should be recognised and I should be able to add/alter/adjust the partitions etc. It tells me there is no hdd connected. I think this is a hp method of making sure you don't remove their installations. I need disk space so I want to remove the hp recovery system etc and also setup xp pro.
    Can anyone help me?

Cannot understand why the problem is happening, some cd's dont offer the upgrade option. You can boot from cd and install that way, but, all your programs, drivers will need to be reinstalled. If you do this you might be ahead to go to your oem site and download the drivers for your pc before you start and burn them to a disc.. I dont believe Hp has a dog in this fight. ed

Thanks Tunered. I don't understand it either. I must be doing something wrong but it is alluding me. I've even disabled all boot sequences except the vdrom and the hdd, clutching at straws. I realise I'm going to have to replace all drivers etc by doing this but with half the hdd space taken up with the HP Recovery partition, I have no alternative. From time to time I actually do this crap as a p/t business although I am retired, but this one has me beat. Well, any help is greatfully appreciated.
