Spinpoint-P 250Gb SATA HDD. WinXP SP2 Pro. I need to combine the two 127gb partitions that were made before I got SP2. Is there a way to do it without data loss?

I use VCom's (http://www.v-com.com) Partition Commander - you can often find it cheap on eBay.

You were helped! You need a partitioning tool and Partition Commander or something similar is what you need. You can find free ones on sites like Major Geeks here - the more popular ones should also be the better ones. So get on with it - no one here is your mama... If you make a good backup before attempting, you should be OK.

Acronis Disk Director Suite is capable of merging partitions without data loss. I've never tried that function but I like the software.

Alright... now I have to get that program... you're the first person whose post actually showed up. The rest didn't at all.

I will say that I've always had problems with Partition Magic completely messing up my Win98/ME partitions rendering my system inoperable. I know it is the leader for partition work but I always had trouble with it. Acronis just works better and more automatically for me in regards to changing partition sizes etc.
One note is that I've only used Acronis on XP so I don't know if that is why I consider it more stable and reliable.

Oh and one more note I'm not sure why you want to merge large partitions like that but the process involves basically creating an empty folder on your "to be larger drive" into which all your files are moved from your secondary partition. So you'll be left with one large partition with all your old secondary partition data in the new folder. At least as far as I can tell w/o committing to the procedure.

There's also a program called BootIt that I've used to extend and change partition sizes and it should work for this, But it seems to me that you'll run into some problems here with drives letter/program file associations... be sure the REAL important stuff is burned to CD or DVD before messing with your partitions. Partition work can be disasterous. Not trying to scare or discourage you, just some advice. Always back up what you consider important, even if not playing with partitions... you never know what can happen with these crazy machines ;)

 Hi. If you haven't already done it, and you are able, burn everything, preferably to DVD, before doing anything. That way, you can try to merge partitions and still recover if something goes awry. Good night and good luck.
