    Combofix and MGtools logs attached

I have run through the XP cleaning procedure which I have used previously with success. I Have all the apps and instructions saved on a thumb drive..
It took all day but I finally got Combofix and all of the apps to run.

I have a PESKY Trojan.agent/gen-polyfake virus that hijacks all search results to sales or link farm pages. and I have a FAKE System Guard popup in the tray..
Seems now I get the tray popup but the image is missing..

Combofix log shows one file that it cant delete. Nor can I.

    c:\windows\system32\ebtcsek.dll . . . . failed to delete

    Thanks all for any help.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Why are you running with out an antivirus program?

You also ran it more than once and should therefore attach the first log.

Also you did not attach the log from Malwarebytes that we requested. It is here
    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Graphics\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\
    Mar 27 2009 1808 "mbam-log-03-27-2009 (13-23-05).txt"

You also ran ComboFix after running MGtools and you did not us the current version of MGtools. Why aren't you following the instructions as they are written?

Is your old copy of Spyware Doctor 5.5 a paid program or was it a non-functional (one that cannot fix anything) trial?

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 12
    Java(TM) 6 Update 11

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4BE88F60-27DB-4F0B-B286-0C5F9B0DC9F2} - c:\windows\system32\ebtcsek.dll
O9 - Extra button: Extract Flash Video with Bytescout... - {1BCBDAFA-9901-4948-ABD5-92A8F0B6F571} - C:\Program Files\Bytescout SWF To Video Scout\flashextract_ie.html (file missing)
O9 - Extra button: Extract Flash Video with Bytescout... - {A7F7DB56-BAEB-4FE9-B864-8BB087226645} - C:\Program Files\Bytescout SWF To Video Scout\flashextract_ie.html (file missing)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: jzaaoelh - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ebtcsek.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thank You. I was not running without an AV software. There is no way to disable McAFee that I can find. So in order for it to not conflict with the scans as instructed I tried to Disable it, Couldn't so I temporarily removed it using the McAfee removal tool.
    SPyware Doctor is Paid For.
MGTOOLS - I didnt see that it was not current. I will correct that now.
Thank you, I am taking this and I am going to run your instructions now. I will report back shortly.

Followed your instructions - logs attached

I have not yet reinstalled my McAfee and the machine is sitting idle, awaiting your blessing. I only restarted, saved the logs, went to google.com did a search and the Browser search hijack is gone and the Popup is gone.
I have not rerun Hijackthis or anything else, only installed JAVA. only followed your instructions exactly.

I am afraid to run a Hijackthis as that darned ebtscek.dll I just could NOT get rid of yesterday..... I am afraid to see if it is still there. I could NOT delete it.

    Thanks,
    James

Re: Followed your instructions - logs attached

You already ran HijackThis when you followed my instructions to run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe Any other copy of HijackThis that you have should be deleted as you should not be using it on your own anyway and it needs to be renamed before it is used which is why it is embedded into MGtools as analyse.exe

I see you updated Spyware Doctor. Good!;)

But you forgot to uninstall J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 12 Please uninstall it now.

Some new malware problems showed up so we need to use ComboFix again

    Hi Thanks
Here are the Combofix and MGtools logs.
I previously uninstalled the only JAVA entry in my Add Remove Programs. I did not see multiple entries and I did not see that version.
So just now I went in and disabled the the earlier version in the Java control panel. and then I went in and deleted all folders in the c:\programs\Java folder except the new 6.0 folder.
    Please advise.
    Thanks very much.

Use the below registry patch to finish removal.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Otherwise, your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
