Comcast constantly disconnecting

    For the past month or so (I haven't been using internet so I haven't bothered fixing it) my internet has been disconnecting throughout the day at sporadic time intervals; sometimes it disconnects then keeps disconnects then keeps disconnecting every 5 minutes for half an hour, sometime it works fine for hours, sometimes it take 30-45 minutes for it to disconnect again. I called Comcast and they told me it is likely the modem that is having problems, so they had me switch the modems and once I did it seemed to work, but after 5-6 hours of being set up it disconnected again and is up to the old problems. I'll try to outline what happens on my modem lights when it disconnects:
    Normal(internet working): Only the ethernet light blinks, all other lights stay solid
    Disconnect stage 1: Ethernet blinks slowly, US light blinks quickly, DS is solid, ready is off
    Disconnect stage 2: Ethernet blinks slowly, US goes off, DS starts blinking, ready is off
    Disconnect Stage 3(rarely happens): All lights solid except ready light blinks
    It alternates through stages 1-3 until it finally fixes itself and reconnects after a few minutes of that.

    I also ran a windows network diagnostics and it says, "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)"

    This last time it didn't fix itself even after 2 hours, power cycling didn't work either. Heeelp!!

    P.S. I'm having a tech support come by tomorrow but I'd like to have a guess at what the problem is and if it's possible to fix it before then.

    So I've done some research and apparently my modem is US ranging, then DS scanning, then starting over once it gets to IP Init & Registration. What could be causing this?

    Maybe call Comcast and file a trouble ticket with them. Helps to know the model #, manufacturer of the modem that you are having issues with, along with what part of the country, you are in on the Comcast system.

    Constant dicsconnects every few hours ...

    This is my most recient log file from the ubee cable modem...

    it went DC when the maint requests started

    every time it sends these it kills home internet till i powerycle and that is every few hours when im home if im goneit does restore after about 20 min or so according to others here using it.

    During the issue i can inter mitently access the modem through its IP the router has never been unreachable i have tried a bypass same affect. modem drops inet for some kind of service mode and does not come back for 15 min to an hour at times. this is every 5 hrs to 24 hrs that i know of ...


    Any advice.. the admin / cableroot password has no options to edit modem settings only view status and logs... can i halt this update thing that never happens?
