Probably asked alot of times. I tried searching but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

I know I saw it here or somewhere similar when I was rooting worms out of a friends laptop.

    Command prompt flashing problem.

Besides going into command prompt and running the command from there.
To have it stay up and even then sometimes it will close because of a close/end in a batch file/script/etc.

There was is supposed to be a way to make it like it used to where you can type ipconfig into run and it would stay up.

    Anyone know it ?
Or am I looking for an imaginary solution ?

(Running Ipconfig from run is just an easy example of some of the things I remember)

As soon as a command like ipconfig completes, it closes when started from the run box.

You have to run a command thats continuous. For example, ping does the same thing.

However, if you make it a continuous command, such as ping -t 127.0.0.1, it stays open, as the duration doesn't end until you tell it to.

Its been like this for many years.

curios because in WinME i remember doing ipconfig from run and it staying up.
This is just over over 7 years ago.

I hope i was not hallucinating solutions to my problems while i was fixing a friends...

To run commands such as ipconfig without the Command box closing immediately, open a Command Prompt panel via Start, All Programs, Accessories. Then, the panel will stay open until you close it.

All the same answers. The ones I don't want.

I was hoping to find the answer here because I had seen how to do this from a guide to a virus I was rooting out of a friends laptop.

    =[ I wish i had remembered it...

Seems to me you've been given valid answers here. What point is it we've missed? :confused

Dreagon is right. I knew it was possible to keep the dos window open if you ran a batch file because whenever you log on at our uni, a command box reminding us of the rules stays open until we close it.

But what he is after, I found here:

    http://pcworld.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://find.pcworld.com/48140

So what you want Dreagon is to type command /k ipconfig and the window will stay open. Just preface any command with command /k (and a space) and the window will stay open.

Edit - I know I never thought to try this; type command/? or cmd/? (depending on your Windows version - cmd works on 2000 upwards) into a dos prompt - there are quite a few parameters/switches that go with this one.

Oh, by the way. This feature has been available since at least 98SE because that's what I was using at the time.

I run win 2K and I go to Programs/Accessories/Command prompt
My screen doesn't close when I type anything in. (If you do it from the run box it will close.)
