Command Prompt doesn't recognize any commands at all.

    Hi.

I've caught a virus several weeks ago that messed around with my registry. Long story short, I managed to suppress it and get my PC working again (I've tried every registry fixer, anti-virus and anti-adware wares on the net) but I believe it's still inside the system and I'll have to format my hard drive. But, before I do that, I'll need to trasfer all my data to a new hard drive that I'm planning to buy soon. And even before I do that, I still need to use the PC and I was wondering whether anybody knows how I can get the Command Prompt working again.

I do have the WinXP Pro (my OS) CD.

I used AIDA32 to gather info about my PC and I have the report attached to this post. The report exceeded the upload size limit so I zipped it.

    Thanks in advance.

Do you have the file autoexec.nt in your windows/system32 directory
if not go to windows/repair and place one in windows/system32.

Does the command prompt just not open at all, or are you just getting the "<command> is not recognized as an internal or external yada yada" message when you try to run commands from it? If it is the later, my best guess, aside from Clark Kent's excelent advice, would be incorrect environment values; please try the "Verify System Variables" section of the following link:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319114/en-us. Making sure that the "comspec" variable is equal to "%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe" (no quotes) may also be relevant.

If I'm off base about what's going on here, please describe the problem in a little more detail. Good luck! :)

Clark, I checked and I do have the autoexec.nt file in my Sys32 folder.

Gecks, it didn't recognize any commands when I put them in the command line and hit "enter". I did what was said in that link you gave me and it works now. A big, great thanks, Gecks.
