Command prompt help

Suppose I wanted to use the command prompt to copy a file that is on the network to the local machine.

Suppose I mapped the network location to M.

is the command just copy m:\location\filename c:\destintaion\filename?

I also want to create a file that will execute. I was told the extension is .DAT or is it .BAT (asking because I didnt have time to check it yet, might as well ask)

Ignore the previous post. I was able to copy network files with /z.

Now I would like to know how to create command prompt commands that will execute when you run them? (basiacally I am just asking about .BAT and .DAT or whatever the extension is)

The extension should be .BAT

You can use any of the following programs to create a BATch file.

notepad
edit
copy con ......(rarely will you see anyone but myself ever use this to create a file)

 

ok I figured that part out.

Now what am I doing worg here man?

C:\>copy M:\macsql\pwe.exe documents and settings/goran/desktop/pwe.exe
if I just do
C:\>copy M:\macsql\pwe.exe pwe.exe
it copies it from the network drive under C. But I want it to go to my desktop.

Now I tried inserting the C:\ and all those possibilities it doesnt work. Can someone Help me please.
Also then why doesnt this command work
copy \Documents and Settings\goran\Desktop\Music\04-system_of_a_down-cigaro.mp3 SystemCigaro.mp3


The syntax of the command is incorrect.

It wasnt /b it was quotes. Sorry to trouble you fellas.
