Commodo Firewall update

With the new year coming, I'm reviewing the Understanding, Cleaning And Preventing Spyware thread, and updating my computer. I had AVG AnitVirus 7.X, but had to update to 8.0...done.

Now I see Commodo Firewall has changed to Commodo CIS, which looks like it includes an anitvirus. I also see it is no longer included (not recommended?) on the Understanding, Cleaning And Preventing Spyware thread. Should I just removed Commodo Firewall and use another, any recommendations?

The guide you're reading was last updated in 2006, basics are still there but for security I keep an eye here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44525 this guide is updated frequently.

As far as installing Comodo Firewall without the anitvirus, you can.

1. Download the new version

2. Disconnect from internet

3. Exit Comodo

4. Make sure Comodo is no longer running in services or processes before trying to uninstall.

Start > run > services.msc

should be listed as Comodo, disable startup
(R click/properties/start-up type/disable/apply/OK)

5. Reboot

6. Check processes (CTRL ALT + DEL) cfp.exe should not be running.

7. Look again at services, Comodo should not be started

8. Uninstall old version, I use windows Add/Remove Programs

9. Use Ccleaner to clean files and registry prior to installing the new version, leave at defaults.

Due to all the issues with uninstalls of firewalls, this is overkill but works for me when removing firewalls. Just make sure that you check processes and services and firewall isn't running or it will try to do its job and fight the uninstall. Also remember to stay off line till you have a firewall up and read the screens when installing new so you only get what you want.
