    Hi Geeks,

I'm a long time user of the Comodo Firewall and Comodo BOClean, and Avast (Home Edition) Antivirus.
When the Comodo Firewall upgraded to Comodo Internet Security I installed CIS and opted-out of the Comodo Antivirus, staying with my trusty Avast, and keeping BOClean.

I'm going to reformat over the Memorial Day weekend (no probs, just General Purposes) and I was wondering if the Geeks think I should just go all Comodo this time, or continue my current setup?

I'm also considering adding Threatfire... so if I drop Avast and go all Comodo, do you think that Threatfire would conflict with CIS + BOClean; or would Threatfire even be necessary?

    BTW, system is XP SP3, P4 (2.4), 1GB RAM, 80 GB HDD .

    Appreciating all opinions,
    Thanks in advance.

I disagree that you should only change when having issues. Not all antiviruses are capable of catching all viruses... so changing occassionally will often detect viruses that your old program was not able to catch.

For example, back in 1999 I had mcafee on my machine... and as far as I knew it was protecting my computer (I'd never gotten a virus!). But I got a free copy of Symantec Corporate Edition, and I figured I should see what it was like.

Symantec discovered 6 viruses that mcafee hadn't detected!

Anyways, to answer your question, I'd personally avoid CIS for the time being. It's a brand new antivirus, which probably means that it will be buggy, and won't be able to detect as many viruses as avast. The reviews and tests that I've seen suggest that it might be a good product, but when it comes to your antivirus, it's not worth fooling around. But I hope some people do, because CIS has potential. :)

I also disagree with the first comment about not changing without reason... there are still people who recommend Spybot because they've had no reason to try SAS or MBAM ;)

I don't feel like subscribing to Virus Bulletin just to read a review, nor installing a .pdf reader just to read AV Comparatives. (Why do the good sources make it such a hassle?)
I was hoping someone would give me their current opinion of the AV component of CIS, unlike my opinion which is still based on CIS being brand-new, which it no longer is.

As I said in my original post, I'll be doing a reformat this weekend, so the clean install that DomLuc mentions isn't an issue; if I am indeed going to change, this is the time to do it.

I though it went without saying that I keep adequate on-demand scanners on board and do the occasional online scan from known and trustworthy sources.

BTW, Anybody have any thoughts about the second part of my original question...
Threatfire with [CIS + BOClean] if that is the configuration I choose ?

I have been using Comodo Personal Firewall (ver. 2.4) for a long time and Avira AntiVir even longer. Both together have kept my machine clean.
My Comodo may be old, but still effective for its designed purpose.
As stated, if it ain't broke....
And as for ThreatFire, be prepared for a lot of conflicts and false positives along with constant nags whenever you run or install a program.

Threatfire looks to be an up and comer, only compatibility issues noticed on web site were with AVG Internet Security 8 and Zone Alarm 7.0 although solutions are offered to remedy

I try to stay away from Internet Security Suites as a rule but have used Comodo firewall and BOClean in the past, when the software was going through upgrades I discontinued its use. I like Avast as a free alternative to commercial products but use AVG free on WIndows 7 build 7100 with one minor quirk, and usually use OnlineArmor free for a firewall.

Thank You everyone for your input.

I believe I will stick with CIS w/ Avast + BOClean, and shelve the idea of Threatfire.

It ain't broke, so no sense in fixin' it ;)

(Where did I hear that before?) :-D
