To those of you who run BOClean as a standard part of their security:
Have you noticed sometimes after a restart that BOclean will eat up about 50% of your CPU? I'd say once out of every 6 or 8 startups/restarts, it exhibits this behavior. I have let it just sit with nothing else running and it seems to stay at 50% CPU usage until I use the task manager to end it. I then go to All Programs > Comodo and start it up again and it's fine. If I right click on the system tray BOClean icon and open the menu, the menu comes up but when I move the pointer to it to click on something, it turns to the hourglass and I can't click on anything and I have to close it with the task manager. Has anybody else had BOclean do this? It didn't happen with v4.26; it has happened maybe 6 times since I updated to v4.27.

dlb, using v4.27 as well, no problems here. Just to experiment, restarted ten time without issues in TM. On XP Pro SP3. Cheers

I don't stare at CPU usage either. I noticed some web pages were opening MUCH slower than usual (all web sites usually open almost instantly; I have a fast PC, and a fast broadband connection). And it is a prolonged situation: when the CPU usage spikes to 50% with BOclean, it stays there until I end the process in the task manager. I have just let it sit for 10-15 minutes without usage going back to normal (which is about 1%-3%). I had a drive-by infection a couple weeks ago and thought maybe something was lingering so I opened the task manager and noticed that BOclean was at 50% CPU usage. I first noticed it about 2 months ago but I kind of forgot about it until yesterday when it happened again. As I was typing up this thread, I remembered that it has happened a few times. According to Comodo, it's normal 'cuz BOclean is scanning the memory upon booting (thanks for the link oma). Maybe I can disable that option in the settings. But since I have everyone's attention: is there another app similar to BOclean that will offer similar protection (preferably free)? I've been looking at ThreatFire....

Yeah- the spiking does last for a long time. It stays there until I end the process with the task manager. Then I just go to All Programs and restart BOclean and it's fine after that. The next time it happens, just for testing purposes, maybe I'll go have a pizza and a six pack just to see if it ever goes back to normal on its own. Like I said, I've waited for 10-15 minutes without any change; it stays at a minimum of 48% usage and up to 51% usage. But since it rarely happens (only on reboots, and then only one in 6 or 8 boots) I might just live with it. Maybe I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling.

to dlb, if you decided to do what Mark just said,(clean uninstall/reinstall) would you be kind enough to post your results here?
    thank you

Maybe try switching to manual updates for a while instead of automatic. See if that makes a difference.

OK- I have done an uninstall/cleaning/reinstall. Now we just have to wait and see. If it ever happens again, I'll post here....

    :-D
