I have Comodo Firewall installed with the built in anti-virus support but do I also need a standalone anti-virus scanner such as AVG or Avast if Comodo has the built in function? Windows XP shows me that I have a security alert as I don't have an antivirus installed however I run the antivirus with Comodo on a fortnightly basis.

Also on another note if I don't have Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed and don't want it will I still be able to get the critical security updates for Windows XP?

Re Comodo if you're using what is provided with the firewall, yes you need an realtime scanner. I use Avast with Comodo, works well, not a peep out of either program.

If you're using Comodo AntiVirus, then no it's a realtime scanner and should be active in your taskbar. By your post think you know that Comodo Firewall and Comodo Antivirus are two completly different programs.

This is a good read re protecting yourself
