After having Comodo Firewall for about 2-3 weeks now, it's all of a sudden decided not to load upon startup of the laptop. It did for the entire 2-3 weeks, but now it's just all of a sudden stopped. I can't seem to find any setting within the program to start at startup. Can anyone guide me through how to get it to load the firewall automatically at the startup of the computer? Thanks.

    Start/Run msconfig
Look in the startup tab and be sure there is a check/tick at CPF

I don't even have that as an option/box

    Any other suggestions?

Start the firewall and go to:

    Security > Advanced

in the bottom right hand corner click the "restore" button and then shutdown/restart the firewall.

Now reboot the computer and see if it starts up with Windows.

I followed this procedure 2 days ago and everything seems to be working fine again. Comodo is starting automatically upon starting the computer. However, the true test remains to be seen as the problem didn't occur until about 2-3 weeks after I had orignially installed it. I will have to allow the same time to pass before I can truely comfirm that the problem is resolved. I'll post back in a few weeks to let everyone know how things are running. Thanks again.

Ok, exactly on the 2 week mark.... Comodo has decided to stop running on startup this morning. However, I found this:

    http://forums.comodo.com/help/fw_doesnt_start_up_resolved-t6515.0.html

Directly from the Comodo support forums. Could someone baby me through the regedit steps? I have no experience manually changing registry entries and from what I do know, a simple error could cause major problems. Definitely not trying to undertake this myself. Anyways, if someone could walk me through what the person from the above link did using Regedit, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks.

Think the last line was the most telling in that thread dell1705user
Some program other than Comodo is wiping the start key from your registry, so manually changing the registry will have the same results as uninstall/reinstall did. I think if you take a look at what other programs you have running on start-up we may find the culprit???? It could also be a setting change that you made in Comodo, though I doubt that.

And Yes you are correct changing the registry can be harmful to your PC's health

Makes sense, yet I have SpywareBlaster, Windows Defender, Symantec run scans everyday... not one has found anything that was removed. Having said that, since these scan and would remove stuff, if anything was ever found needed removing, wouldn't it have "deleted" the registry item within the first day or 2? Why does it always seem to be at this 2 week cut off after it's been starting up fine?

As to other programs running at startup:

    MIDIDEF
    ctfmon
    I8kfangui
    Digital Line Detect
    HP Digital Imaging Monitor
    HP Image Zone Fast Start
    Logitech Setpoint

According to MSConfig >> Startup, those are the only things running at startup. None of those seem like programs that would cannabilize another programs registry item for a startup command... Could I be wrong?

I would suspect either Windows Defender (which the Malware folks don't like) or Symantec (Been known to trash other security programs if I remember correctly) you can get Comodo's anti-virus (I use it and like it, don't like anything from Symantec to be honest, but others do) Hope that Helps

You can always use the Scheduled Task option(as plodr refers to in the next post) and add Comodo there instead of playing with the registry

Sounds like something is removing the startup at the two week mark. Take a look at windows' scheduled tasks to see if anything in there is set to run every two weeks. Note: not all software that might run something will appear here.

I read through the threads linked to but I saw no mention of anything dealing with the registry. What section of the registry did you want help with? (I always give directions for backing up the registry section before any changes are made. Then if something appears broken, a single click on the backup will have the registry back to the way it was.

What does adding to scheduled tasks do? Simply "schedule" Comodo to run at every startup?

The poster mentioned adding a string via Regedit to cure the problem.

Correct, but it will not show in your "Start-Up" folder, so the program that is deleting it will not see it there is my reasoning dell1705user.

Ok, so I scheduled Comodo to run at startup via Scheduled Task wizard, yet it's not starting. Is there a trick to this that's I'm not aware of?

Did you check in msconfig to see if the entry is there ?

If it is not I would suggest downloading Winpatrol as well as many other features it has a startup manager. This should save you from having to use regedit

At a guess I would have assumed a trip to the Malware forum was in order ?
But, this thread has been going for too long for the Malware guys to have not suggested that themselves.

I've posted before about how uninstalling a program, such as IObit Smart Defrag, will delete some startup programs or executables. In my case, I just got rid of IObit altogether. Otherwise, use some startup manager type application or place your problem application or executable in your global startup folder in the start/all programs list.

Your problem may have been related to uninstalling something else. Good luck.
