Hi. My computer has started to go into standby for some unknown reason. For example I was watching a video on youtube and when I made the video full screen my monitor went into standby mode. However I could still hear the sound perfectly fine but could not get it out of standby without shutting it down manually. Atfer a reboot however making youtube videos full screen was fine. It seems to happen when theres some strain put on the computer...

Screensaver is set to off, power option is set to balanced, however I changed the settings to never on both "turn off the display" and "put the computer to sleep" I have selected as much as I could to never or none in the advanced power settings.

    Hello Devilishly Charmin.

Is this Windows Vista, or Windows XP?
Do you have the proper drivers installed for your Video Card?
Are you having simular issues when playing Video Intesive Games/Applications?
Can you please check your Device Manager to see if there are any conflicts (? or !).

Try those and let us know.

Hi, it is Windows Vista Ultimate, I have all the correct drivers for my video card installed. I do not play intense video games, I run software like photoshop, dreamweaver, psp and a few others if they are classed as "intense" applications. Sometimes it does it with them open yes, not always though, sometimes it is fine. As far as the device manager is I am not 100% sure what you mean by any conflicts? If you mean am I missing some hardware drivers for some hardware, then no. (nothing is highlighted yellow)

Thanks for the reply sir :)

    Hello again,

What type of Video Card do you currently have installed, if you don't mind me asking, as I was thinking possibly that it could not handle that application. Also, since it mainly seems to happen with only full screen applications, I'm wondering if there is something in the background running while running these applications that may play into affect.

Just a thought, and hope it helps.

    Hi, I have a Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT ....

Also, nothing out of the ordinary running in the background, quite a new install of windows so barely nothing.

Seems quite weird. Do you have the latest drivers installed directly from Nvidia? Don't know if that may help, but it might.

Hmm, really got me at a *scratching my head* moment.

Few more things. Is your computer a desktop or laptop, if its a desktop, is there possibly any settings on the monitor itself causing the issue, such as too high of a Refresh Rate.

Also, in the BIOS, which I REALLY doubt, maybe there's a setting... but as I said, I really doubt it.

Hope this points you in the right direction.

Something like this happened to me once, except it wasnt going into standby. Instead it was just restarting. I'm not totally sure why it would go into standby, but does your video card have a spot for power line to be plugged into it? If so check to make sure thats plugged in well, or at all.
