ok, so far it has done this hundreds of times, it just str8 up locks up. I
have to manual restart. i have found a temporary fix....well kind of.

i found that if i run winamp with the visualization on it doesnt lockup.
well, basically if i run something graphics intense like a game it wont lock up
but occasionally it does, like 1 out of 30:rolleyes:

i have noticed that the only times it does lock up i cant hear the fan and when the fan is able to be heard its fine.
is it a graphics card problem??!
    is it cpu iono

i mean its manageable but i always have to have winamp running or playing a game. id like to be able to use my computer without stipulations.

    its an:

    hp pavilion a1130n
    running winxp pro corporate
    3500+ amd athlon 64 processor
    1 gb pc3200ddr sdram
    250gb HD
    2 dvd writer drives
    ATI radeon xpress 200 series

any ideas, anyone need more stats???

    plz help

also just noticed as i went into my device manager

    that under other devices:

    it says: SM Bus Controller

and it has that exclamation mark of doom

    it is not working correctly

how do i get a driver for this as it seems to not have one

For the SMBus Controller you'll need to find out who makes your MB and what type/brand the chipset is and install the chipset software. For example: If it's a VIA chipset, use the VIA 4-in-1 drivers, Intel Chipset uses INFINST.exe, etc..... chipset drivers should be available from your MB manufacturers web site and/or the chipset vendors web site or on your MB install CD. As far as the lock-ups go, they could be related to the SMBus (System Management) or possibly to a thermal/fan issue....

i just cant find the smbus controller one
ive scoured the internet for hours at a time
and all the "fixes" people talk about dont fix it
