Hey guys I'm having trouble with one of my comps in my house. A few days ago I came home and it was off so I booted it up and it brought me to the screen asking if I wanted to run it in safe-mode...etc I choose to run it in normal mode and it went to the windows XP loading screen then restarted. I have picked every option on that safe-mode screen and still got the same results can anyone help me out its infuriating me to no end.

This could be a reoccurring theme here. confused:eek:

Could you give us more info on your machine. XP Pro (or Home) SP2? Brand? Model?

Did you run any anti-virus, anti-spyware, scans, etc. before you last shut it down? And did you shut it down yourself or did all of a sudden you noticed it was shut down without your knowledge?

Ok, I put in my windows XP pro disc and tried to reformat to see if this would help since I could not get into my comp even in safe-mode and everything went smooth... untill it started to install windows about half way into the install it gave me a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error. Didn't do any anti-virus scans in past week or so and it shut down without my knowledge.

Hmmmm, if you tried to reformat and reinstall and got an error like that, it could be a couple of things. like the CD you're using to do the reinstall is corrupt or your hard drive is going bad. You can try and clean the CD up and try reinstalling it again. Hopefully it is just your CD and not your hard drive.

How old is your machine? confused

MickyRush might have a point, but to check your harddrive, I would download a software test utility- This one could do, but have a look at majorgeeks drive utilities downloads page for others:(

Let's look at the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error, on setup- it's even vaguely possible that is a malfunctioning virus according to one of the microsoft links that I looked at, but otherwise it is usually caused by a plug-in, like apache, adobe, even symantic, and mcfee, and microsoft office - we would need the error reference,to find out more.:duck
