Comp shuts off randomly

heres my problem first i dont know too much about comps i know some but not much with that out of the way my comp is less then 2 years old and what it does is shut off completely while playin a certain game if i have it on and not doin anything it seems to stay on just fine but as soon as i try to play it shuts off in less then 5 mins i tried restoring my comp to see if that would do anything but the problem is still there i opened it up dusted wht i could without completely takin it apart also doesnt seem to be gettin hot i just installed a program to moniter temps and it stays at 36c please help me out here guys i dont wanna have to buy a new comp/mb or anything else thats gonna cost me over 300 bucks btw i have a hp slimeline s7600n let me know if u need more info from it cuz i will be watching this post all day

As you say you have "dusted" inside the PC I assume you have checked that all fans are spinning freely. If they all are the fault may well lie with your RAM as this along with overheating is the most commn cause of random crashes. Run a memory checker such as Memtest and see if that shows up any errors.

 

my comp is a tiny tower only has 1 fan nad yes it runs fine ill run the memtest ive had this ram for about 6 months now and never had a problem til last night with the shut offs thanks again for your help

comp just shut off furing memtest i think ill install my old ram see if that stops it

 

well still shut off with old ram installed anyone have any other ideas?

 

If you have a power supply to swap out with, I'd try that.

Just because a pc will boot, doesn't make a psu good. It could have a voltgage issue or a broken rail.

Try a different psu and ONLY hook up the HD and video to it (if your video has a psu plug-in on it i mean)

 

i dont have a differn power supply im monitering the temps not and it looks like my proccessor is the only one moving
highest i seen it go is 43 celcius

 

is there anyway of testing the psu i have in there now?

 

I also have a s7600n computer and it's been doing the SAME DAMN THING!!

I think it has to do with sound or video drivers. The reason I think this is that it crashes quicker it seems while I am doing something that uses the audio function. I am not sure though because sometimes it quits without any audio chip use at all.

I had Vista installed for a while and it NEVER shut off like it does in XP....

I have gone into the bios and chosen "NO" to the Plug and Play OS to see if getting the bios to set up the devices instead of the OS... Might make a difference? If that doesnt work I will disable the onboard sound and try again...

NOTE: I do not have the restore partition and I installed with an HP Windows MCE 2005 SP2 disc... I tried to do the SP3 patch listed on the website but it would not work! I still got random shutdowns in SP2... so I updated to SP3 and still same problem!!

I am hoping to finish this post before it shuts off again!
