so my desktop is kinda busted,

    1) whenever i try turning it on both green and red lights would flash it would start up for about 3 seconds and then shut down.

2)After that i can no longer use the power button in the front to turn on my comp but instead i have to go to the back to turn off the main power and back on then my comp would start. then it would go back to point 1.

3)Then after trying over and over, somehow when i turn on the comp after Point 2 and holding down the reset button, it would be in some sort of powered state?? and if i get lucky when i let it go the hard drive would power up and go, if not i am back to point 1 all over again

4)So if i get the hard drive up and running it would start to boot and how up on my monitor, then it would ask me for Safe mode, normal mode and that stuff, and after the window loading screen i either A) get an auto restart or B) get a blank screen

can anyone help me solve this ? :(

So after replacing the Power supply i can now turn on my comp with no problems.

But when after the windows loading screen i still get a black screen :(

Restart tapping the F8 key to go to the boot options screen.

Choose 'Last known good configuration', press enter.

If this does not boot for you you will need to find you windows CD and boot to the recovery console (you are using xp?)

run check disk by typing in

    chkdsk /r

    at the command prompt.

Tell me can you go in safe mode?If you can't,set the first boot device in safe mode to cd-rom,and run recovery CD.I think now your boot.ini file is corupted sowhen you run recovery CD only type- "chkdsk /r" without quotes.

    oooo,studiot get first

From your description the pc is finding windows on the hard drive and attempting to boot but there are either corrupt files or sectors on the hard drive so it cannot finish the job.

If boot.ini or the boot sector was corrupt the pc would not start to boot windows at all. Yo uwould get different error messages.

You will need a Windows CD or a Linux boot CD see this thread.

Run Check Disk first. If it still won't boot then you will have to perform a repair installation from your windows CD.

Boot from the windows cd to welcome screen
You will be faced with an option screen
'enter for install or r for repair'
    press enter not r
at the next screen accept the licence (f8)
at the next screen choose windows installation to repair (probably only one)
    press r
    follow the on screen instructions.

If you can get this to work it is more desirable than a clean install as it will leave your data, settings and some programs intact. It will however break updates and antivirus.

You may want to try testing the memory. You can make a bootable CD out of this iso image. Boot off the CD just like you did when you booted off you Windows CD. Let the program run for a few hours.

it gives me a disk boot failure after copying the .iso file on to a CD :(

You have to burn the iso file as a cd image. What burning software do you have, maybe someone with the same software could give direction how.

after doing a drive cleaner using a usb external hard drive connection, still getting stuck after the windows loading screen :S

    should i just reformat?

i also noticed that when given the choice of 3 safe modes, load from last good config, or start windows normally, only the start windows normally would get to the loading screen and then restart, the other 4 choices would just restart after i press enter.

so i reformatted the hard drive but when i try to install XP it restarts

    1) press any key to boot from CD - i press any key
    2) press enter to install windows - i press enter
    3) it will now restart itself :(

is my hard drive broken or something?

i've just tested it with another hard drive and it did the same thing, so i dont think its the hard drive, but what else could it be?

If you havent already, clear cmos, unlplug power, remove motherboard battery for a few minutes, hold down on-off button for a few seconds. Reinstall battery. Try again. ed

I think you are getting further and further from a solution and doing increasingly more complicated things.

I did say press enter, not click. In computing, it is important to follow instructions exactly.

How did you reformat the hard drive?
