Compaq Armada 7400 laptop

Is there a way to disable the internal modem on this machine?

Also, how do you access the bios? I've Google searched. Most say it's the F10key but it won't work for me.

Others sites suggest F1, <CTRL F10, F12, etc.

best bet is to go to the compaq website and try to download the manual

some computers also use F2 or delete to enter bios

as for the modem

if you want to use an external modem instead go to:
control panel
internet options
connections
settings
properties
and select the external modem as the default

if you just want to uninstal the internal modem
control panel
phone and modem options
modems
highlight the modem in question
and select remove
(of course if you want to use it again you will have to reinstal it
and windows will probably pick it up and ask to reinstal it on next startup)

I was hoping to disable the modem so that Windows would never find it again. Should also be able to disable the infrared device too from what I'm finding.

Everything I've found so far says the bios ca be accessed via F10 on bootup. That doesn't work.

I've located a manual (if I have the right one) but it too lists F10.

Found this identification on the underside of the machine:

Armada 7400 6300/T/6400/D/M/1

One site said I would need a special boot disc. Where I could locate that is not mentioned. :-(
