I'm having trouble loading a compaq evo 500 series desktop pc with windows xp. It boots from the xp cd does the initial system in spection and then the screen goes blank. It has Fedora Core 6 loaded but I prefer to use windows so I want it removed.

Any have any Idea why the system would go blank and just hang like that.

You corrupt the boot.ini file. You need Windows XP CD.In boot, press any key to install CD,then press R button to use recovery console.type "chkdsk /r"(without quotes),and after scan type exit.
The scan will be for a long time so be patient.

From what I can piece together, I believe this computer came with windows 2000 installed. Has it ever had XP on it?
I tried to install a different OS on a notebook I had and everytime I tried, the screen went black. I checked for BIOS updates and discovered that a BIOS update fixed the bug that kept biting me - the black screen during the attempted install.
