    i have an althelon 64 x2 dual core 6000
    and an geforce 8600gt
and if i play a post 2007 game it will get hot and shut down
I am missing the side pannel and have stuck a 20' box fan blowing directly into the computer, aside from cleaning it what would you all advise for my heat issue?

    Hi

Sadly opening up the case and adding a side general fan will not normally work, it may in some cases but in general it will not, so is your PC very clean inside as in CPU Heat Sink and Fan plus the GPU (graphics card fan) and any fans and the motherboard free from dust and fluff?

Indeed there are fans and heat sink, i spent $30 on a CPU fan and heat sink with arctic thermal paste , the 8600 has a heat sink the size of the card and 2 inches thick, like i could fight off rapists with it. the side panel has be gone since i got it. (it has a bright blue led lit slow moving fan, useless and annoying) so im stuck with cleaning it and getting a new vid card.
    any other suggestions?

ints not very dirty but its not clean

Mm well I would clean it as much as possible to rule out the fluff and dust as the cause and also tell us what your temps are?

    Speedfan should do the job.

Also tell us what directions the case fans are directing air at? as airflow is crucial to PC cooling, I spend a hell of alot of time making sure airflow is a its peek and my PC at present is running a download from MSDN (4gb) and Folding at Home and cpu is only 33c and gpu although a GTX570 is at 70c as its running F@H GPU client.

Generally my cpu is at 25-30c when idle.

So what was the heat sink you bought? make and model?

Dragon age 2 and see how it flows in combat
ill post the temps and ty for the link
