Compaq Laptop Will not Start

Hi, I'm having a problem with my compaq. I got the blue screen of death once. Now it will not start in safe mode or Normal mode. If i select safe mode or Normal it will act like it will start but then it restarts my computer. Can Any one please help..

:major Welcome to Major Geeks!
I'm assuming you're running Windows XP. Press F8 when booting to bring up the Windows Boot Options menu. Select 'Disable Automatic Restart...." and boot up. When it crashes and tries to restart, it should stop on the blue screen error. Write down the error number (it looks like 0x0000007F) and any file names it may mentions (like ntfs.sys is common). Then post this info and we'll go from there....

This is what i see the 0 is zero
STOP : 0x000000ED (0x8238d9D0, 0xc0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

There is no file name mentioned.

A stop error ED means this

Stop 0x000000ED or UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME - The kernel mode I/O subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it failed. This error might also occur during an upgrade to Windows XP Professional on systems that use higher throughput ATA disks or controllers with incorrect cabling. In some cases, your system might appear to work normally after you restart.

The Stop message occurs if you are using Ultra DMA with a 40 wire cable instead of the 80 wire cable or BIOS is set to use Ultra DMA . It is also possible that the File System is damaged by loading some piece of hardware.

Have you changed any cables or added hardware? Have you been making any changes in the BIOS?

The things I found at MS doesn't seem to fit your situation; it isn't an upgrade and the 2nd parameter doesn't indicate a damaged file system; it is also beyond SP1.

I changed cable companies.. But I always worked off of the wireless. NO changes to BIOS

Any other ideas
