    Hi
I have been trying to sort this computer out and have posted other threads: Hard drive died? and computer slow to boot.

Basically the hard drive wouldn't boot, after copying missing files, trying to repair, etc. I gave up and formatted and installed XP home from my laptops CD (as I only had a recovery partition and no physical CDs). This worked but it took a good 10 minutes to boot.

I gave up completely and ordered a new SATA hard drive and a set of recovery CDs.

i have installed the hard drive and got as far as installing the first disc, then it says insert supplemental DVD, which I did and it said that the disc was either unreadable or not for the PC.

The PC is Compaq Presario SR1629UK, P4 3GHz, 1GB Ram. The original HDD was 250GB SATA and the new one is 160GB SATA.

I have since looked on the compaq website and in the new hard drive faqs it says to install a HDD the same or bigger.

Could this be the problem? and if so is there a way round it?

    Any help appreciated.

    Hi
    I've got it going now.
There are 2 monitor connections on the back of the computer, one for onboard and one for a PCI.
I set the BIOS to onboard and started from the beginning and it has worked now.
