compaq presario v6000 power issues

im trying to resurrect my wife's old laptop. it has been out of commission for a few years now. problems: it wouldn't work without power cable plugged in, for awhile you had to jiggle the power cord connection to get the blue light to come on and for the computer to turn on, now that doesn't work. It gets no lights whatsoever. i'm pretty sure the battery is shot. i recently got a new charger cable and new power adaptor motherboard piece. i'm still getting nothing. i don't know what else to do other than start replacing things. any ideas as to what the issue may be?

 

HP/Compaq had a lot of issues with that series and others having Cold Solder joints on the motherboards. Not much you can do, since the Motherboard costs more than that unit is worth.

Toshiba sent out a flyer yesterday, advertising Window 7 Laptops, for the same price that they are selling their Windows 8 laptops. You can get a decent unit for $325 these days.

 

thanks. i have found some motherboards for this machine on ebay for around $50. I don't know the condition of them though, who knows if they work. some are listed as new. i'm not looking to purchase a new laptop, i just thought it would be nice to get this one up and running again if it didn't cost much

 

Personally I would not buy it anywhere, but from HP, or a reputable place, that can guarantee that the unit works. With eBay, you are taking too many risks in your hands these days, due to all of the con artists on there.
