Compaq Recovery Disk

Hi troops

having trouble with my mother in laws Compaq Pressario 2104. She has broadband via orange (was wannado) and now has a problem with the router. Orange are saying that she has a 169 IP addy but this needs to be a 192 addy before she can connect. Not entirely sure what this means.

Anyway, I want to restore to factory settings but the MinL has lost the recovery disk - anyone any ideas where I can get a copy.

Her computer should pull her IP from the router. Have you thought about resetting the router and reprogramming it?

 

You should just be able to change the addy port to 192 in your Intenet connections, also Compaq has a restore partition HD that you can use to restore to original settings, I would suggest then using PC cleaner to remove most of Compaq's garbage IE AOL etc, it is available here at MG. I would also take this opportunity to make the "Recover CD's" that Compaq asked to do originally. Hope that helps

 

Any update on this? Resetting the router (which usually requires pushing a tiny button on the back) is probably the easiest way to try to solve this, but be sure to SHUT THE COMPUTER DOWN before you reset the router. If you're not sure how to do this, tell us which router you're using, and we should be able to help you research the exact instructions on how to reset it...

Once the router has been reset (you should see the lights blink to indicate success), reboot the computer, and try to access the 'net.
