Compaq SR2013WM Windows 7 Upgrade Problems

I'm attempting to upgrade a friend's Compaq SR2013WM desktop PC from Windows XP MCE sp3 to Windows 7 Premium 32-bit. Although Microsoft's Windows 7 Compatibility Test showed no potential hardware issues, I have been unable to successfully boot the PC since doing a clean Win 7 install.

Prior to the Win 7 install the PC ran perfectly. An upgrade to 2GB of RAM was performed several months ago with no problems. What makes this issue especially weird are the random errors I get each time.

Sometimes Blue Screens of Death come up with different errors including IRQ conflicts or Memory Dumps. Other times the screen will show that Windows is starting up and, without warning, the PC will go into an endless rebooting cycle. The same things occur when I attempt to boot from the Win 7 DVD instead of the HDD. If I attempt to start in Safe Mode, a Windows message pops up stating setup cannot be completed in Safe Mode, automatically reboots the PC and the random errors begin again.

The stock mobo is an Asus ABM2N-LA. It does not have an option to disable BIOS shadowing or make any IRQ adjustments. Compaq's support and download site does not list any available BIOS upgrades (the current BIOS is v. 3.0.0.) or solutions for this problem. I've even pulled the PCI cards (fax/modem and Wi-Fi); no difference.

Any ideas on what could be going on? Is there a chance the memory modules could be causing this, or is it likely a mobo issue? My friend really wants Win 7 installed and will end up with a useless $100 copy of it unless I can find a solution. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

 

One more note: The clean install of Windows 7 seemed to go OK until what should have been the final restart (setting up the desktop). That's when the problems started.
