    Hi

    Moved to your own thread.

As you dont mention a Windows version and Service Pack a direct link to the drivers I cannot provide (so what Windows version are you using), but the general one is HERE and all you need to do is pick the Windows version you have from the dropdown, (that PC doesnt via Compaq support XP and very limited for Win7)

And install the LAN driver, its generally found in the Original Drivers branch in the list (click the + to open)

In Device Manager what items have Yellow ! marks by them?

The driver I referenced was listed as supporting the 430 chipset.
You said that you were running XP SP3. Are you running the 64Bit version of XP?

Going to the drop down box here. I went to legacy in product type and nforce 4 series for product series and Nforce 430/6150SE for the product.

That listed the driver for XP 64bit here.

    And the 32bit driver here.

But, I did a separate search for the standalone 430 chipset which includes your ethernet driver and got these results.

Here is the standalone chipset driver for XP 32bit.
Here is the standalone chipset driver for XP 64bit.

Edit: you may have more luck if you clean out your previous Nvidia drivers with Driver Sweeper

You can tell if it is 32bit or 64bit by the following by right clicking my computer and selecting properties. Look at the info under the General tab.

The operating system is displayed as follows:
    * For a 64-bit version operating system: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version < Year> appears under System.
    * For a 32-bit version operating system: Windows XP Professional Version <Year> appears under System.

You can also use this method.

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type winmsd.exe, and then click OK.
    3. When System Summary is selected in the navigation pane, locate Processor under Item in the details pane. Note the value.
    * If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with x86, the computer is running a 32-bit version of Windows.
    * If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with ia64 or AMD64, the computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows.

    Hi

As there is no SKU or verison of XP thats named XP Performance 2010 Edition then your version is subject to not being a full retail version and therefore as a hacked stripped down version of XP it may have faults that you may not fix as its not a full version.

Majorgeeks does not assit with versions of retail software that is not legitimate, I'm afraid.

Would be better to go back to Vista and we can help you tweak that Windows version.

i know linux is getting alot more user friendly do you think that unbuntu or xunbuntu (or other Linux?) would be a good alternative to vista...not planning on staying a novice for ever..?:confused

    Hi

Yes, Linux and Kubuntu, Ubuntu and Mint are very good download the Live CD versions and they run off CD and see what you think of them before doing a full install, but I find Kubuntu or Mint great, I run both on other PCs of mine (actually run at least 7 different Windows and Linux OSes)

    Kubuntu
    Ubuntu
    Mint

But for questions try our Linux forum area for help on these OSes, while they wont run Windows apps, you can always find alternates to many Windows applications, but gaming is not a Linux thing so if gaming is your thing I would suggest a dual boot of Windows Vista and Linux.

    Hi

Linux may help the driver issue, but again it may not, if you do graphic design what software do you use?

Vista maybe your best bet to go back to for now.

after some research i decided to go with mint and downloading now. nvidia provides chipsets for linux so hopefully this will resolve the os conflict that im sure is the case and from photoshop to GIMPshop should be a easy transition.
i guess i ll head to the linux fourm..
    thanks
