Compaq Video Problem

I have a customer who has a Compaq Presario 5000 and I had to reformat and install Windows 98SE on her computer. Well all went well except the video driver. I went to the Compaq web site and tried to download the driver (OK, OK stop laughing now) and there are like 12 models of the 5000 series (ie. 5000a, 5000la and so on) hers just says 5000 so that is the one I tried. I wound up trying Nvidia, S3 Virge and VIA drivers none of which worked and she didn't get a restore disc from Office Depot when she bought it. Can somebody tell me what to try next? I can't seem to identify the video (integrated) manufacturer. Without that I haven't a clue as to what drivers to install. The motherboard has an Intel chipset but their web site doesn't list any Intel drivers for this PC.

I was advised years ago not to buy a C machine because of this. When they run out, they can put anything inside. Creating nightmares for repair.

i have an old Armada laptop with a cracked screen. Thankfully the card was the one in the specs. I set it up with Linux Mandrake and now intend to refire it since I have a wireless card that may work.

I appreciate your help, but we already tried that one. The problem is everything about the 5000 series refers to a VIA chipset and this board has an Intel chipset.
