Compaq- Windows Update- Non Function

Windows Update has stopped functioning in Windows 7.

Please Advice.

Open Services and click on Windows Update.
In the left pane click Restart the service.

None worked.

I tried running WindowsUpdate Trouble shooter as suggested by virtual help from Microsoft.

It stated :

Problems found
Problems installing recent updates- Not fixed
Service registration is missing or corrupt- Fixed

This did not fix either.

 

Have you got SP1 installed?
You will need this as a minimum in order to access extended support which is available until 2020.

If running sp1, try clearing the windows update cache also!

 

If it is still a problem, I have found this toll very useful, and it works very well. You will find it will update, and on reboot it can also update again, if needed, and appeared o supply any necessary .net fixes,too.

I Thank all of You for your suggestions which took time and effort.

I have Windows Vista which keeps on checking for updates when Windows Update is clicked. It never terminates unless restarted and never detects new updates. Can the above fix it?

Maybe an old version of the wsus might work, but I believe the Vista version from around 2008 (wsus v3)was buggy, if you can find it, and if servers still work with that- but I doubt it-sorry

 

If the Windows Update is functioning properly, wouldn't the Windows Update indicate that there are no updates when it is run?

30 important updates & 2 optional updates were installed successfully on 2018-04-01!

Before this began to work, in Windows Update,

• Most recent check for updates was on 2016-09-10

• Updates were last installed on 2017-05-22

 

It is appreciated when we are told that the attempt to help was successful, as It also may help someone else with the same problem

 

It will also help me in future if the same problem occurs.

If the solution which worked for me does not work for others, there were alternatives given in Dr. Moriarty's link https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-updates/42c98c78-157b-44b7-858a-3ba92933cb90 which helped lesser number of people than the one which helped me.
