Comparing drives in RAID 1

I have a question about RAID storage.

I have recently installed a Promise RAID card in our server. It is running on RAID 1 over two drives.

Everything appears to be working fine. At boot up the RAID system is reported as “Functional”.

But I’m a suspicious kind of guy and want to prove that all is well. There does not appear to be a method of interrogating both drives independently to ensure that one is a true copy of the other.

Does anyone know of any way of checking the individual drives?

It occurred to me that if I disconnected the power lead from each drive in turn the system should see that as a faulty disk but continue to work off the connected disk. That would prove the system. Can anyone see any problem in doing that?

    Any comments would be appreciated.
