    Hi Folks,

After several weeks of researching and comparing prices and this thing and that, I've come up with a few parts I'd like to purchase. The only issue that I'm not sure about is the "Socket 478" business. Not sure what that means.
I'll have to read up more on it.

In the mean time, I wanted to know what you guys think of the following parts to be build up. Don't worry about the HDD's I haven't gotten there yet. Also, I'm on a budget, so I can't hit the sweet 4Gb memory right away! ;)

DFI LANParty UT NF4 ULTRA-D ATX S939 NFORCE4 Ultra DDR 2PCI-E16 SATA RAID Sound LAN 1394
    Antec Performance TX1050B SOHO ATX Tower Case Black 4X5.25 2X3.5 4X3.5INT 500W ATX12V 2.0
    OCZ EL PC3200 1GB 2X512MB DDR400 CL2-3-2-6 184PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit W/ Ramsink
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor S939 Venice 2.0GHZ 512K L2 Cache 90NM Retail Box

The NCIX links for these parts are (respectively):

I know I'm going to have to toss in a couple extra fans. I dare say with time I'll probably change the heatsink that comes with the CPU for a Thermalright (I like the XP-90, no not the copper one, remember, I'm on a budget ;)) and get Zalman fan or something like that.

My main question is the compatability of the four parts listed above.

And I mean, hey, if I've got it all wrong, tell me! Although I'm preeeettty sure I'm catching the hang of PC building and compatability.

Last and not least, thank you Asus (the member, not the manufac.) for all your kind support to my recent posts. Thank you everyone else for your kind posts too!

the S939 in both items above, are the socket type for amd 64's (socket 939) you're safe with those, they match up. Socket 478 is intel. other than that, those will all work just fine together. my only suggestion, is that you should maybe get a little faster cpu, like 3700 or above.

    here's a 3800+ : http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=14418&vpn=ADA3800BPBOX&manufacture=AMD

Hey Dan, socket 478 has nothing to do with the parts you listed.
Socket 478 It's Pentium thing, is how many pin on a P4 CPU & the type socket it sit's on

The parts you listed are socket 939, an Athlon 64 thing:)
The parts you listed should all work fine together.

No need to get a 3800 when you can OC a 3200 to the same speeds or higher.
Those 3200 should easily do 2.7Ghz on DFI, Maybe higher

If your tight on Money wait for the XP-90, the stock HSF should be OK even for some OCing, best to keep max temp under 50c

Any particular reason for shopping at NCIX, their prices are High.
I can find everything you listed much cheaper else where.

On a Budget? There are several SATA II HDD 80gb avaible for under $50, I'd go with Hitachi or Seagate, for $100 ya got sweet raid 0 setup

Newegg does not ship outside the US (at least according to their FAQ), and I assume the gentleman ordering is from Canada, since he is choosing a Canadian shop. :)

Got that right. If the prices are considerably different, I might consider having all the parts shipped to an American address, but for the time being, Ncix has good shipping time, and I can avoid paying customs at the door.

    Have any Canadian store suggestions?

Thank you for the reply Asus. I wanted to make sure (mainly) that my Tower would be big enough for the mainboard I selected. I've done quite a bit of reading since then....I'm pretty sure it'll fit! That tower appears to be a monstrosity! LOL!

Honestly, the only Canadian stores I've found and liked are NCIX and www.tigerdirect.ca

Of course, I tend to find something that works and stick with it, rather than shop around, so I may not be the best person to give an opinion. :)

Well, I haven't checked them out thoroughly, but it appears that ncix is the better of the two so far. I've had alot of luck with ebay. My brother bought a 1Gb nano recently for just over $100. AFAIK buying other electronics on ebay is great as well.
